Kubernetes originated from Google’s Borg-inspired orchestration work and was open-sourced in 2014.
It quickly became the standard control plane for container orchestration through CNCF governance, a strong ecosystem, and a declarative API model.
Kubernetes now anchors most modern container platforms directly or indirectly, including managed cloud offerings and enterprise distributions.
